In situ differential scanning calorimetry analysis of dissolution and precipitation kinetics in Mg–Y–RE alloy WE43

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys, 2019
Further development of our differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) method for the analysis of solid-solid phase transformations now also allows for its application in the kinetic analysis of age hardening in Mg alloys.

Study of soils by thermal analysis

open access: yes, 2008
The study of soils is very important in the geological and geological engineering researches. A study of ten samples of soils was carried out by thermal analysis, and X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry to understand soil evolution in Angra dos Reis region ...

Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Cryogel Addition Effect on Ultrasound-Assisted Thawing of Pork Meat

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Science
The use of new technologies that allow for improving conventional food preservation processes is what the industry has been adopting in recent decades, with high-intensity ultrasound (US) and the application of cryoprotectant agents (cryogels) being ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Thermal Analysis for Condition Monitoring of Machine Tool Spindles

open access: yes, 2012
Decreasing tolerances on parts manufactured, or inspected, on machine tools increases the requirement to have a greater understanding of machine tool capabilities, error sources and factors affecting asset availability. Continuous usage of a machine tool

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
