SHAKEDOWN ANALYSIS OF THERMAL BARRIER COATING AND SIMPLIFIED ANALYTIC MODEL
Based on wrinkling model,a theoretical model for thermal barrier coating system was established. Using the temperature parameter method, the paper constructed the residual stress field of coating system, built the discrete format of finite element for ...

New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Similarity tests of turbine vanes, effects of ceramic thermal barrier coatings [PDF]
The role of material thermal conductivity was analyzed for its effect on the thermal performance of air-cooled gas turbine components coated with a ceramic thermal barrier material when tested at reduced temperatures and pressures.

Thermal barrier coating materials
Improved thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) will enable future gas turbines to operate at higher gas temperatures. Considerable effort is being invested, therefore, in identifying new materials with even better performance than the current industry standard, yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ).

This paper presents a novel approach to reducing oxide layers on metal powders using low‐temperature hydrogen dielectric barrier discharge plasmas at atmospheric pressure. Unlike conventional hydrogen‐plasma reductions, the powders do not contact the plasma directly.

Development of a Vertical Burner Rig Using Methane Flame [PDF]
In this study, we developed a new vertical thermal gradient rig that uses methane-oxygen fuel. We conducted thermal gradient testing on a thermal barrier coating system, with a flame temperature of 1,900°C.

Thermal barrier coating life prediction model development [PDF]
In order to fully exploit thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) on turbine components and achieve the maximum performance benefit, the knowledge and understanding of TBC failure mechanisms must be increased and the means to predict coating life developed.
