Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Control of micro-CHP and thermal energy storage for minimising electrical grid utilisation

open access: yes, 2013
Combined heat and power (CHP) systems in buildings present a control challenge for their efficient use due to their simultaneous production of thermal and electrical energy.

On-line calculation of thermal stresses by time integration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Green's function technique (GFT) is largely used for on-line calculation of thermal stresses in machines and plants; it allows directly turning parameters such as fluid temperatures, pressures and flow rates in thermal stresses.

Energy efficiency of envelopes at major repairs [PDF]

open access: yesСтроительство уникальных зданий и сооружений, 2013
The article describes the calculation method of the payback period for the thermal protection measures. These measures are aimed at the increasing of thermal protection level achieved by the additional thermal insulation of the existing building's ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Optimized Design of Hot Water Storage in Solar Thermal Cooling Facilities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Solar thermal installations can provide a significant contribution to the energy needs of cooling demand of single family buildings. Unfortunately oversizing facility elements is not uncommon. Most of the design flaws concern collector field or auxiliary

Time‐restricted feeding prior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reduces tissue CD4+ T cells with limited impact on bacterial clearance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) in mice increased liver fatty acid oxidation and decreased fatty acid biosynthesis. These alterations persisted when TRF was discontinued and the host was infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pre‐exposure to TRF did not alter tissue (lung and spleen) mycobacterial burden but significantly reduced CD3+ T cells in lungs
