Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

NECAP 4.1: NASA's Energy Cost Analysis Program thermal response factor routine [PDF]

open access: yes
A thermal response factor is described and calculation sequences and flowcharts for RESFAC2 are provided. RESFAC is used by NASA's (NECAP) to calculate hourly heat transfer coefficients (thermal response factors) for each unique delayed surface.

CALCULATION OF CONTACT THERMAL RESISTANCE

open access: yesModern Technologies and Scientific and Technological Progress
An approach to determining the contact thermal resistance of two-layer materials and the results of comparing the analytical determination of thermal resistance with experimental data are considered. The necessity of taking into account the contact thermal resistance in the design of heat exchangers is ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Calculation Tool for Effective Borehole Thermal Resistance.

open access: yes, 2016
This paper presents a tool for computing thermal resistance of single U-tube ground heat exchangers placed in vertical boreholes. The tool is complete in the sense that it can compute both local and effective thermal resistances for either grouted or groundwater-filled boreholes.
