An examination of the thermophysical nature of solar-control films using an illuminated hot box and computer based simulation modelling techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Solar-control films are increasingly being retrofitted to the windows of buildings as a means of reducing solar gain. At present, there is a dearth of information concerning how these films effect the thermal comfort of occupants within buildings where

Thermal conductivity and interfacial energy of solid Bi in the Bi-Ag eutectic system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The equilibrated grain boundary groove shapes for solid Bi (Bi-2.87 at.%Ag) in equilibrium with Bi-Ag eutectic liquid have been observed from quenched sample with a radial heat flow apparatus.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

Measurement of thermal conductivity using 2D inverse heat conduction problem approach by identifying simultaneously the heat dissipation phenomena

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
Various methods for measuring thermal conductivity have been applied under both steady-state and transient conditions. A challenge in thermal conductivity measurement lies in accurately identifying the heat dissipated to the environment.

Experimental Characterization and Constitutive Modeling of the Effect of Prior Inelastic Strain on the Viscoplastic Behavior of AD730 at 700 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

Optimization direction and selection strategy for thin film thermoelectric cooler materials

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
While thin-film thermoelectric coolers (TECs) are promising for chip thermal management, their material optimization strategy remains controversial. Conventional approaches focus on improving the material's figure of merit (ZT) by enhancing the power ...
