Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Thermal cycling induced stress–assisted sigma phase formation in super duplex stainless steel

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2019
Thermal cycling induced the phase transformation originated from the physical simulation of power plant on/off operation. The effect of thermal cycling on duplex stainless steel was studied to understand its phase transformation comprehensively.

Thermal cycling of thermoelectric generators: The effect of heating rate

open access: yesApplied Energy, 2019
Thermoelectric generators, or TEGs, are solid state devices which can convert heat directly into electricity according to the Seebeck effect. When thermoelectric generators are subjected to thermal cycling they can undergo severe performance degradation.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Extreme Thermal Cycling of Anode‐Supported Microtubular Solid Oxide Fuel Cells Using a Novel Test Setup

open access: yesAdvanced Energy & Sustainability Research
Microtubular solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are known for their tolerance to thermal shocks and ability to withstand rapid thermal cycling. However, the heating and cooling rates for the thermal cycling tests of SOFCs in laboratory settings are often ...

Thermal Stress Response in Flat-Tubular Solid Oxide Fuel Cells Induced by Transient Temperature Rise During Thermal Cycling

open access: yesEnergies
High-temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) typically operate under conditions involving repeated thermal cycling. The transient temperature rise during thermal cycling directly affects the stress distribution within the SOFC structure, particularly ...

Significant improvement in the thermal cycling stability of Ni44.8Ti45.8Hf5Cu5 shape memory alloy by high pressure torsion and post-deformation annealing

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2022
A newly developed quaternary Ni44.8Cu5Ti45.2Hf5 shape memory alloy (SMA) was processed by high-pressure torsion (HPT) for five turns under a pressure of 6 GPa at room temperature and then subjected to post deformation annealing (PDA) at 450 °C for 10 min.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Visualization experiment on pump-out phenomena of thermal grease under thermal cycling

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2016
In order to reduce thermal resistance of power module system, Thermal Interface Materials (TIMs) have been used at the interface between baseplate of power module and heat sink.
