Oxidative degradation of polylactide (PLA) and its effects on physical and mechanical properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The thermo-oxidative degradation of polylactide (PLA) films was studied between 70 and 150 C. It was shown that the oxidative degradation of PLA leads to a random chain cission responsible for a reduction of the molar mass.

Thermal degradation of polystyrene in air [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science: Polymer Letters Edition, 1979
The degradation of polystyrene has been a subject of many investigations and a large volume of literature exists on the subject. More recently Cascaval et al.(1) have reported that the weight loss of polystyrene containing end groups derived from azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) seems to be different from that of anionically polymerized samples.

Degradation in a Thermal Barrier Coating [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Ceramic Materials, 1987
The failure of a thermal barrier coating involves cracking and spalling of the ceramic layer, primarily brought about by bond-coat oxidation during operation. The present investigation focuses on the microstructural and microchemical changes in a thermal barrier coating, oxidized in air for 1 and 10 h at 900{degree}C.

Note on the thermal degradation of polytetrafluoroethylene as a first-order reaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 1960
Additional experiments on the rates of thermal degradation of polytetra-fluoroethylene in a vacuum confirm an earlier conclusion that a first-order rate law is involved in the degradation ...

Thermal Degradation on Already Oxidatively Degraded Solutions

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2013
AbstractCO2 capture with alkanolamines has been in use since 1930, where 2-ethanolamine (MEA) is the most studied absorbent for post-combustion. In order to prevent degradation, it is important to understand the degradation mechanisms, which in turn requires knowledge of both stoichiometry and kinetics of the reactions and chemical pathways associated ...

Thermal Degradation Mechanisms of Polybenzoxazines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This chapter explains the thermal degradation processes of various Polybenzoxazines and the degradation mechanisms. The structural effects of phenols and amines on the thermal degradation of polybenzoxazines are investigated systematically. The thermal decomposition studies of polybenzoxazines are sometimes difficult because a large number of ...

Combined kinetic analysis of thermal degradation of polymeric materials under any thermal pathway [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Combined kinetic analysis has been applied for the first time to the thermal degradation of polymeric materials. The combined kinetic analysis allows the determination of the kinetic parameter from the simultaneous analysis of a set of experimental ...
