The object of the paper is to examine the role of anisotropicity in a visco-elastic plate subjected to an uneven temperature distribution. An expression for deflection of the particle at the middle section of a rectangular plate is found analytically.

Prediction of the Deformation in Stereolithography Products Based on Elastic Thermal Shrinkage
Polymer-Plastics Technology and Engineering, 1998Abstract Deformation of some specimens produced by a stereolithography system was studied experimentally and numerically. Three steps in the rapid prototyping process (part building, part removal, and postcure) imposed significant effects on dimensional accuracy. Dimensions of the specimens were measured after each step. Distortion during part building

Elastic-plastic thermal stresses and deformation of short-fibre composites
Journal of Materials Science, 1994A micromechanics model is proposed to analyse residual stresses and deformations that develop in short-fibre composites upon an applied uniform temperature change. The model is based on Eshelby's equivalent inclusion method and treats the interaction among fibres at finite volume fractions through the Mori-Tanaka mean field theory. The model treats the

Analysis of thermal stress and deformation in elastically bonded optics
SPIE Proceedings, 2007This paper discusses analytical equations and finite-element models for thermal stresses and deformations caused by continuous edge, three-point and face elastomeric bonds. Analytical equations for the athermalized edge bond thickness are derived where possible and verified by finite-element solutions.

Quasi‐Classical Trajectory of Thermal Neutrons in Elastically Deformed Crystals
physica status solidi (b), 1989AbstractThe propagation of thermal neutrons through distorted crystals is reconsidered on the basis of an adiabatic quantum mechanical approach which enables one to derive quasi‐classical trajectories of neutrons for an arbitrary elastic deformation of a crystal. It is shown that the quasi‐classical concept is generally applicable even in the case when

Deformation Due to Mechanical and Thermal Sources in Magneto‐Micropolar Elastic Medium
Multidiscipline Modeling in Materials and Structures, 2007The present investigation is concerned with a two‐dimensional problem in electromagnetic micropolar elasticity for a half‐space whose surface is subjected to mechanical or thermal source in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. Laplace and Fourier transform technique is used to solve the problem.

The stress-deformation state of an elastic half-space with a spheroidal thermal inclusion
International Applied Mechanics, 1992Axisymmetrical problem of thermoelasticity for an elastic half-space with a spheroidal inclusion is considered assuming that the materials of the matrix and the inclusion differ only by coefficient of linear expansion. Stresses in the system appear due to its stationary heating.

Three Mirrors Aberrations Optical Transform Function with the Thermal Elastic Deformation
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2011The field angle of TMA (three mirrors aberration) optical system is larger than coaxial optical system and more susceptible to the structure deformation. Thermal optical analysis is proposed for evaluating the optical MTF (module transform function). Temperature loads, such as X axial, Y axial and Z axial temperature gradients, are put on the optical ...

Turbulent Lubrication of Tilting-Pad Thrust Bearings With Thermal and Elastic Deformations
Journal of Tribology, 1985Pad deformations of sector-shaped, tilting-pad thrust bearings affecting turbulent lubrication are discussed theoretically. Solving the lubrication and energy equations with turbulence and centrifugal forces and the elastic and moment balance equations of a pad simultaneously, film pressure and temperature distributions, thermal and elastic ...

Modelling and Analysis of Elastic and Thermal Deformations of a Hydrodynamic Radial Journal Bearing
Key Engineering Materials, 2016Journal bearings are widely used in heavy industry and in internal combustion engine applications. There is a need to increase the power density of various machine parts which leads to increased bearing loads and reduced lubrication film thicknesses. This type of development may increase deformations on the bearing surfaces which need to be considered ...
