Thermal environment assessment of deep mine based on analytic hierarchy process and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2020
There are many influencing factors for deep thermal environment, which will interact with each other. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation (FCE) are introduced to construct the evaluation model.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Viruses from extreme thermal environments [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2001
Viruses of extreme thermophiles are of great interest because they serve as model systems for understanding the biochemistry and molecular biology required for life at high temperatures. In this work, we report the discovery, isolation, and preliminary characterization of viruses and virus-like particles from extreme thermal acidic ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The Borexino Thermal Monitoring & Management System and simulations of the fluid-dynamics of the Borexino detector under asymmetrical, changing boundary conditions

open access: yes, 2017
A comprehensive monitoring system for the thermal environment inside the Borexino neutrino detector was developed and installed in order to reduce uncertainties in determining temperatures throughout the detector.

Landauer's erasure principle in a squeezed thermal memory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Landauer's erasure principle states that the irreversible erasure of a one-bit memory, embedded in a thermal environment, is accompanied with a work input of at least $k_{\text{B}}T\ln2$.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Performance Evaluation of a Chinese Lean Iron Ore as the Oxygen Carrier in Multi and Short-Time Redox Cycles

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
The performance of a Chinese lean iron ore as the oxygen carrier in chemical looping combustion was investigated in a fixed bed reactor. Considering the short contact time between the fuel gas and oxygen carrier in the sub-pilot experimental setup, the ...

A concept of a supercritical CO2 Brayton and organic Rankine combined cycle for solar energy utilization with typical geothermal as auxiliary heat source: Thermodynamic analysis and optimization

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2022
This paper presents an investigation of a supercritical CO2 Brayton and organic Rankine (sCO 2-ORC) combined cycle for solar energy utilization. This combined cycle uses typical geothermal as auxiliary heat source to enhance its thermodynamic performance.

Quantum systems in a stationary environment out of thermal equilibrium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We discuss how the thermalization of an elementary quantum system is modified when the system is placed in an environment out of thermal equilibrium. To this aim we provide a detailed investigation of the dynamics of an atomic system placed close to a ...
