Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

A concept of a supercritical CO2 Brayton and organic Rankine combined cycle for solar energy utilization with typical geothermal as auxiliary heat source: Thermodynamic analysis and optimization

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2022
This paper presents an investigation of a supercritical CO2 Brayton and organic Rankine (sCO 2-ORC) combined cycle for solar energy utilization. This combined cycle uses typical geothermal as auxiliary heat source to enhance its thermodynamic performance.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Thermal management of an unconsolidated shallow urban groundwater body [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This study presents the development of tools for the sustainable thermal management of a shallow unconsolidated urban groundwater body in the city of Basel (Switzerland). The concept of the investigations is based on (1) a characterization of the present

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

A new perspective on polyethylene-promoted lignin pyrolysis with mass transfer and radical explanation

open access: yesGreen Energy & Environment, 2022
Co-pyrolysis of lignin and waste plastics, for example polyethylene (PE), has been studied, but related reports are basically on condition optimizations. This study revealed a new perspective on PE-promoted lignin pyrolysis to phenolic monomers with mass

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Parameter identification of condenser heat transfer model based on improved flower pollination algorithm

open access: yesScientific Reports
Condenser heat transfer parameters serve as critical indicators for assessing the operational status of condensers. However, these parameters cannot be directly obtained through measurement or inferred solely from condenser characteristic curves, which ...
