Thermal mean-field theories

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics
Several closely related ab initio thermal mean-field theories for fermions, both well-established and new ones, are compared with one another at the formalism level and numerically. The theories considered are Fermi–Dirac theory; thermal Hartree–Fock (HF) theory; two modifications of the thermal single-determinant approximation of Kaplan and Argyres ...

Inhomogeneous Thermalization in Strongly Coupled Field Theories [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2013
To describe theoretically the creation and evolution of the quark-gluon plasma, one typically employs three ingredients: a model for the initial state, non-hydrodynamic early time evolution, and hydrodynamics. In this paper we study the non-hydrodynamic early time evolution using the AdS/CFT correspondence in the presence of inhomogeneities.

Nambu-Goldstone Mechanism in Real-Time Thermal Field Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
In a one-generation fermion condensate scheme of electroweak symmetry breaking, it is proven based on Schwinger-Dyson equation in the real-time thermal field theory in the fermion bubble diagram approximation that, at finite temperature $T$ below the ...

Remarks on the influence of quantum vacuum fluctuations over a charged test particle near a conducting wall

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
Quantum vacuum fluctuations of the electromagnetic field in empty space seem not to produce observable effects over the motion of a charged test particle.

Unruh quantum Otto engine in the presence of a reflecting boundary

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2022
We introduce a new model of relativistic quantum analogue of the classical Otto engine in the presence of a perfectly reflecting boundary. A single qubit acts as the working substance interacting with a massless quantum scalar field, with the boundary ...

Selected issues in thermal field theory [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Physics A, 2014
New developments on hot and dense QCD in effective field theories are reviewed. Recent investigations in lattice gauge theories for the low-lying Dirac eigenmodes suggest survival hadrons in restored phase of chiral symmetry. We discuss expected properties of those bound states in a medium using chiral approaches.

Spectra of correlators in the relaxation time approximation of kinetic theory

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
The relaxation time approximation (RTA) of the kinetic Boltzmann equation is likely the simplest window into the microscopic properties of collective real-time transport.

On field theory thermalization from gravitational collapse [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2012
Motivated by its field theory interpretation, we study gravitational collapse of a minimally coupled massless scalar field in Einstein gravity with a negative cosmological constant. After demonstrating the accuracy of the numerical algorithm for the questions we are interested in, we investigate various aspects of the apparent horizon formation.
