The Effects of Parameter Settings on Triggering Time and Climb Rate during Lean-Premixed Combustion Thermoacoustic Oscillations

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This study theoretically explored the effects of parameter settings on thermoacoustic oscillations with a low-order model. Three factors were explored—combustor length, inlet gas temperature and thermal power.

Thermoacoustic Interpretation of Second-Mode Instability

open access: yesAIAA Journal, 2018
A thermoacoustic interpretation of Mack’s second-mode instability is proposed. It is demonstrated that the fundamental mechanism of second-mode wave growth in hypersonic boundary layers is consiste...

Analytical modeling of thermoacoustic instability influences in gas turbine combustors: A detailed parameter sensitivity analysis

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
In this study, the effects of various system parameters on combustion instability were numerically identified through a network-based thermoacoustic model using the concept of a transfer function.

Modeling and control of thermoacoustic instabilities

open access: yes, 2003
This work deals with modeling and control of thermoacoustic combustion instabilities in lean premixed combustion systems. Because of the complex interactions present in thermoacoustic systems, a network modeling approach is used. The model of each network element or subsystem is obtained analytically, numerically, or by making use of experimental ...

Causality and intrinsic thermoacoustic instability modes

open access: yes, 2014
Direct numerical simulation of a confined laminar premixed flame has been performed in an anechoic combustor, showing self-sustained intrinsic thermoacoustic oscillations. Theoretical predictions based on acoustic jump relations and the n − τ model for the flame are presented and causality concerns are discussed.

Exploring liquid fuel combustion dynamics in a swirl burner using dynamic mode decomposition

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics
Aero gas turbine engine combustors are transitioning from traditional Rich-Quench-Lean (RQL) staging to Lean Premixed Prevaporized (LPP) operation to reduce harmful NOx emissions and improve combustion efficiency.
