Tracking Deep Magma Migration Through Diffuse CO2 Degassing: Insights From Piton de la Fournaise Volcano (2013–2023)

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Volcano monitoring requires identifying and distinguishing physico‐chemical processes at various depths within magma plumbing systems and their links to volcanic activity. Long‐term monitoring of deep magma reservoirs, extending down to tens of kilometers, is crucial even though signals from these depths are often altered or attenuated before ...

Seismic Constraints on Temperature, Partial Melt, and Lithosphere‐Asthenosphere Dynamics in the Southwestern United States

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract The southwestern United States hosts well‐documented and dramatic variations in topography, seismicity, heat flow, magmatism, and seismic velocity structure. This region offers opportunities to investigate how processes such as temperature and partial melt are related to the Lithosphere‐Asthenosphere Boundary (LAB), and how they ultimately ...

Magma storage and plumbing of adakite-type post-ophiolite intrusions in the Sabzevar ophiolitic zone, northeast Iran [PDF]

open access: yesSolid Earth, 2015
Subduction-related adakite-type intrusive rocks emplaced into the late Cretaceous–Paleocene Sabzevar ophiolite zone, northeast Iran, range from Mg-andesite to rhyodacite in composition.

Single Piezometric Stress Preserved in Strained Feldspar and Quartz From Intracontinental Lower Crust

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 45, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract The strength of the intracontinental lower crust exerts a primary control on regional‐scale deformation during continent‐continent collision. Because of the nominally anhydrous nature of much of the intracontinental lower crust, it is generally considered to be more viscous than lower crust in hydrated tectonic margins.

Composition of the Sub‐Cratonic Mantle of the Guiana Shield Inferred From Diamond‐Hosted Inclusions

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2021
The composition of diamond‐hosted inclusions provides insight into the character of the sub‐cratonic lithosphere of the Guiana Shield. Guyana's Paleoproterozoic diamonds preserve an inclusion suite comprised of forsterite (Fo ∼89.3–91.8), enstatite ...

Reconciling Seismic and Thermo‐Chemical Models of Cratonic Lithosphere

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Most published global and regional shear‐wave (VS ${V}_{\mathrm{S}}$) velocity models of cratons include a VS ${V}_{\mathrm{S}}$ increase with depth below the Moho, with a maximum at 100–150 km depth. This feature has long been debated, as it appears to require either (implausible) temperature decreases with depth, or substantial, layered ...

A record of magmatic differentiation in plutonic xenoliths from Santorini (Greece)

open access: yesVolcanica
Plutonic xenoliths from volcanic arcs provide unique insights into transcrustal magmatic systems in subduction zone settings. At Santorini volcano in the Central Aegean Volcanic Arc (Greece), plutonic xenoliths occur throughout a sequence of lavas and ...

Cooling‐Induced Rheological Weakening Along the Nascent Plate Interface—A Mechanism for Catastrophic Subduction Initiation?

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Subduction initiation often begins with slow, forced convergence, switches “on” catastrophically as the slab collapses into the mantle, and then evolves to steady‐state, self‐sustained sinking that drives global plate movements. Numerical models suggest that the collapse phase implies sudden weakening of the plate interface.

Review of geothermochronological and thermobarometric techniques for the construction of cooling and exhumation curves or paths for intrusive igneous rocks

open access: yesBoletín Geológico, 2020
The present study reviews radiometric and thermobarometric techniques used to construct cooling curves or paths to characterize intrusive bodies and to calculate cooling and exhumation rates. To construct these curves or paths, the temperature, time and
