This study explores the replacement of cobalt using the high‐entropy alloy design strategy for wear‐resistant components operating at high temperatures. Starting from the Cantor alloy, cobalt is substituted with Cu, Al, V, or Mo. Metallurgical and tribological analyses reveal that aluminum, vanadium, and molybdenum effectively strengthen the developed ...

New thought experiment to test the generalized second law of thermodynamics
We propose an extension of the original thought experiment proposed by Geroch, which sparked much of the actual debate and interest on black hole thermodynamics, and show that the generalized second law of thermodynamics is in compliance with it.Comment:

On the Thermodynamics of Subduction
Abstract The thermodynamic processes attendant on the transfer of fluid between a surface mixed layer and a stratified thermocline beneath are discussed. For a parcel of fluid in the mixed layer to pass into the stratified thermocline—to subduct—it must be stratified by buoyancy input; this buoyancy can be supplied by local air–sea exchange and/or by ...

Thermodynamic holography [PDF]
AbstractThe holographic principle states that the information about a volume of a system is encoded on the boundary surface of the volume. Holography appears in many branches of physics, such as optics, electromagnetism, many-body physics, quantum gravity and string theory. Here we show that holography is also an underlying principle in thermodynamics,

A two‐step approach combining laser powder bed fusion of FeSi electrical steel with Bakelite infiltration enables the fabrication of multifunctional gyroid lattice composites. The resulting structures exhibit high strength, magnetic anisotropy, and complete polymer infiltration, demonstrating a simple and scalable route toward lightweight, mechanically

Thermodynamic matrix exponentials and thermodynamic parallelism
Thermodynamic computing exploits fluctuations and dissipation in physical systems to efficiently solve various mathematical problems. It was recently shown that certain linear algebra problems can be solved thermodynamically, leading to a speedup scaling with the matrix dimension.

Thermodynamics and the naked singularity in the Gamma-metric [PDF]
We investigate a possible way of establishing a parallel between the third law of black hole mechanics, and the strong version of the third law of thermodynamics.
