Trends and Approaches in Obesity and Overweight Research Focused on White Adipose Tissue and Browning: A Bibliometric Study

open access: yesObesity Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The global rise in obesity has intensified scientific interest in adipose tissue biology, particularly the mechanisms underlying white adipose tissue (WAT) browning. This bibliometric study mapped the evolution, structure, and emerging directions of research on obesity, overweight, and WAT browning from 2011 to May 2025. Records were retrieved

Exploring lifestyle management in polycystic ovary syndrome through implementation frameworks

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome [PMOS; previously known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)] is an endocrine condition affecting 10%–13% of women of reproductive age, with cardiometabolic, reproductive and psychological features. The PMOS guidelines have established recommendations for its management, which can include pharmacological,

Necrodes littoralis thermogenesis dataset

open access: yes
This dataset contains data from the article "Foraging on larval blow flies by adult carrion beetles Necrodes littoralis (Staphylinidae: Silphinae) reduces thermogenesis in the feeding matrix formed by the beetle larvae" by Szyk et al.

Seven days of warm‐water immersion enhances resting irisin and BDNF, but not klotho, in older men

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract We examined whether seven consecutive days of warm‐water immersion could elevate resting and exercise‐induced levels of brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), irisin and klotho in older adults. These biomarkers support cognitive and metabolic health, but their levels decline with age.

Brain strain: Blood flow and metabolism in environmental extremes

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract This narrative review compares and contrasts the most commonly encountered environmental stressors on human cerebrovascular functioning. From high altitude and space, extreme apnoea, heat and cold stress, the impact of these stressors on the regulation of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and oxygen metabolism (CMRO2${\mathrm{CM}}{{\mathrm{R}}_ ...

The cold‐water immersion recovery–adaptation paradox: Reconciling acute parasympathetic and analgesic benefits with chronic hypertrophy attenuation

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Cold‐water immersion (CWI) is among the most widely used post‐exercise recovery modalities in elite sport and clinical rehabilitation, yet a fundamental paradox now emerges from the evidence: the same protocols that accelerate parasympathetic reactivation and reduce perceived muscle soreness also suppress the molecular and cellular machinery ...

NAD replenishment restores mitochondrial function and thermogenesis in the brown adipose tissue of mice with obesity

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend A high‐fat diet (HFD) induces brown adipose tissue (BAT) whitening, mitochondrial dysfunction (damaged cristae, fragmentation), reduced NAD+ levels and impaired thermogenesis, leading to lower energy expenditure and metabolic inflexibility.

Cannabinoid exposure during pregnancy: Cardiorespiratory effects and offspring outcomes

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Prenatal exposure to cannabinoids has been investigated across human and animal studies to understand its impact on physiological development. Evidence suggests that early‐life cannabinoid exposure influence multiple developmental processes, extending beyond neurodevelopmental outcomes to potentially affect placental function ...

Potential health benefits of cold‐water immersion: the central role of PGC‐1α

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Cold‐water immersion (CWI) elicits autonomic, somato‐motoric (shivering thermogenesis), endocrine and metabolic, sensory transduction, and local biophysical effects that may converge on the transcriptional co‐activator PGC‐1α (centre).
