Interplay between inflammatory reflex and energetic metabolism in endotoxaemia: A role for haem oxygenase 1?

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 182, Issue 16, Page 3695-3709, August 2025.
Inflammation is vital for defence against injury and infection, but excessive inflammation can lead to tissue damage and disease. The central nervous system (CNS) helps regulate immune responses through neuroendocrine pathways, such as the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis and the anti‐inflammatory reflex, which limit systemic inflammation.

Evolutionary implications of a deep‐time perspective on insect pollination

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 100, Issue 4, Page 1452-1466, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Plant pollination by insects represents one of the most transformative and iconic ecological relationships in the natural world. Despite tens of thousands of papers, as well as numerous books, on pollination biology published over the past 200 years, most studies focused on the fossil record of pollinating insects have only been published in ...

CHIP mediates glucagon action on hepatic glucose production via regulating Smad3 ubiquitination

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 27, Issue 8, Page 4499-4510, August 2025.
Abstract Aims Excessive hepatic glucose production (HGP) driven by glucagon contributes to hyperglycaemia in obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D), yet the molecular mechanisms underlying this dysregulation remain incompletely defined. This study investigates the role of Smad3 signaling and its regulation by CHIP (Carboxy‐terminus of Hsc70‐interacting ...
