Augmenting thesauri for information systems
ACM Transactions on Information Systems, 1987A thesaurus can be a critical component of an office information system. Access to various sets of documents can be facilitated by thesauri and by the connections that are made among thesauri. In the projects described in this paper, the thesauri are stored and manipulated through a relational database management system.

Effectiveness of thesauri-aided retrieval
SPIE Proceedings, 1999In this report, we describe the results of an experiment designed to measure the effects of automatic query expansion on retrieval effectiveness. In particular, we used a collection-specific thesaurus to expand the query by adding synonyms of the searched terms. Our preliminary results show no significant gain in average precision and recall.

Relational thesauri in information retrieval
Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1985AbstractThis article describes the design and development of a new type of thesaurus based on lexical‐semantic relations. Relational thesauri have been constructed to perform a new type of term classification. These relational thesauri are generally applicable to any document collection and their maintenance is relatively simple.

TOSCANA-systems based on thesauri
1998TOSCANA is a computer program which allows an online interaction with data bases to analyse and explore data conceptually. Such interaction uses conceptual data systems which are based on formal contexts consisting of relationships between objects and attributes.

Thesauri and ontologies in digital libraries
Proceedings of the 5th ACM/IEEE-CS joint conference on Digital libraries, 2005This introductory tutorial is intended for anyone concerned with subject access to digital libraries. It provides a bridge by presenting methods of subject access as treated in an information studies program for those coming to digital libraries from other fields.

A framework for semantic mapping between thesauri
Proceedings of the 2nd international conference on Theory and practice of electronic governance, 2008Thesaurus interoperability is an important property which guarantees quality in indexing and retrieval of heterogeneous data sources in a distributed environment. It contributes to guarantee semantic interoperability of public services and information quality which are essential features of eGov-ernment implementation policies.

Computers, databases and thesauri
Aslib Proceedings, 1990Two rather different approaches are used for handling a thesaurus as a printed document and for using one as an adjunct to a database management system. This results in term relationship information being lost and opportunities for enhanced retrieval routines being missed. The technical difficulties involved in doing better, i.e. slow data transmission
