Weighted Tissue Thickness

open access: yes, 2023
Measuring the thickness of a tissue can provide valuable clinical information; anatomical structures segmented on medical images can include sub-structures (inclusions) corresponding to a different biological tissue. This article presents a method, based on partial differential equations, to measure the thickness of one specific tissue in this ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Dielectric and Dilatometric Studies of Glass Transitions in Thin Polymer Films

open access: yes, 2000
Dielectric relaxation and thermal expansion spectroscopy were made for thin polystyrene films in order to measure the temperature $T_{\alpha}$ corresponding to the peak in the loss component of susceptibility due to the $\alpha$-process and the $\alpha ...

Thickness of the rim of an expanding lamella near the splash threshold [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The evolution of the ejected liquid sheet, or lamella, created after impact of a liquid drop onto a solid surface is studied using high-speed video in order to observe the detailed time evolution of the thickness of the rim of the lamella.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Predictors of response and rational combinations for the novel MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665 in acute myeloid leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study characterizes the responses of primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patient samples to the MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665. The results revealed that monocytic differentiation is associated with MIK665 sensitivity. Conversely, elevated ABCB1 expression is a potential biomarker of resistance to the treatment, which can be overcome by the combination ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Effect of Thickness on Ferroelectric Properties of Bi3.25La0.75Ti3O12 Thin Films

open access: yesCeramics
The pursuit of low-power/low-voltage operation in devices has prompted a keen interest in the mesoscale effects within ferroelectric thin films. The downsizing of ferroelectrics can significantly influence performance; for instance, the remanent ...
