Influence of Concentration of Compatibilizer on Long- term Water Absorption and Thickness Swelling Behavior of Polypropylene, Wood Flour/Glass Fiber Hybrid Composites [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Wood and Paper Industries, 2011
The influence of concentration (2, 3 and 5%) of Maleic Anhydride Grafted Polypropylene (MAPP) on long term water absorption and thickness swelling of wood flour/E-glass fiber Hybrid polypropylene composites were studied.

Effects of moisture-induced thickness swelling on the microstructure of oriented strand board

open access: yes, 2017
When wood becomes wet and then dries, restraint of shrinkage at the surface of wood by wetter surface and also sub-surface layers causes tensile stresses to develop resulting in micro-checking. Wood elements in composites such as oriented strand board (OSB) also swell and shrink when they become wet and dry.

WOVEN HYBRID COMPOSITES: WATER ABSORPTION AND THICKNESS SWELLING BEHAVIOURS

open access: yesBioResources, 2011
Oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB)/woven jute fibres (Jw) reinforced epoxy hybrid composites were prepared by hand lay-up technique by keeping the EFB/ woven jute fibre weight ratios constant, i.e. 4:1.

1D thickness evolution model of cork ablators, including swelling, ablation and erosion

open access: yesInternational Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer
A one-dimensional mathematical framework is developed to describe the thickness evolution---swelling and recession---of cork samples in high enthalpy flows, in the arc-heated wind tunnel L2K. The model is formulated to account for swelling effect, constant long-term recession rate, particle-induced erosion, and post-erosion swelling---that is swelling ...

Sea-ice thickness measurement based on the dispersion of ice swell

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2012
The dispersion of flexural waves propagating in the Arctic sea ice cover is exploited in order to locally measure the ice thickness. The observed dispersion, for waves filtered in the 4–20 s period interval, at up to 4 broad-band seismometers deployed in Spring 2007 near the North Pole, is compared to a parameterized model that accounts for a complex ...

Woven hybrid composites: Water absorption and thickness swelling behaviors

open access: yesBioResources, 2011
Oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB)/woven jute fibres (Jw) reinforced epoxy hybrid composites were prepared by hand lay-up technique by keeping the EFB/ woven jute fibre weight ratios constant, i.e. 4:1. By combining oil palm EFB and woven jute fibre, it is possible to take advantage of both fibres while at the same time suppressing their less desirable

Long-Term Hygroscopic Thickness Swelling Rate of Hydrothermally Treated Beech Wood / Polypropylene Composites

open access: yesDrvna Industrija, 2022
Long-term hygroscopic thickness swelling rate of polypropylene (PP) composites filled with thermally treated wood flour was investigated. The beech wood chips were heat treated at 120 °C, 150 °C or 180 °C for 30 or 120 min using saturated steam in a ...

Effect of Press Cycle Time on Application Behavior of Board Made from Chemically Modified Particles

open access: yesDrvna Industrija, 2016
Although acetylation is effective in achieving high hydrophobicity, dimensional stability, and decay resistance of particleboards, springback and mechanical strength loss in modified boards should be improved to maintain high performance of this method ...
