CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Influence of stand density, thinning and elevated CO2 on stem wood density of spruce
Stem wood density (SWD) of young Norway spruce trees (Picea abies [L.] Karst.) growing at ambient (A variant, 350 µmol(CO2)/mol) and elevated (E variant, A + 350 µmol(CO2)/mol) atmospheric CO2 concentration inside of the glass domes with adjustable ...

Lattice Boltzmann Models for Complex Fluids
We present various Lattice Boltzmann Models which reproduce the effects of rough walls, shear thinning and granular flow. We examine the boundary layers generated by the roughness of the walls.

Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Optimizing crop loading of apples and pears - results 2004-2006 (foliar fertilizers, thinning) [PDF]
Main topics of the research-project FuE 03OE088 of “Bundesprogramm Ökologischer Landbau” (30.04.2004-31.12.2006) were the testing of foliar fertilizers in organic apples and pears, optimizing lime sulphur for blossom thinning, looking for alternatives ...

Testing hypotheses of the cause of peripheral thinning of the Greenland Ice Sheet: is land-terminating ice thinning at anomalously high rates? [PDF]
Recent observations have shown that the periphery of the Greenland ice sheet (GrIS) is thinning rapidly and that this thinning is greatest around marine-terminating outlet glaciers. Several theories have been proposed which provide a link between climate

Abstract Context.—The incidence of malignant melanoma is increasing and a preponderance of the melanomas diagnosed today are “thin” in terms of Breslow criteria. Although thin melanomas, as a group, are associated with a very good prognosis, a subset of these tumors may metastasize and cause death.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.
