Multiwavelength operation with thin diffractive elements

Applied Optics, 1999
It is generally accepted that diffractive elements designed for multiwavelength operation require deep surface-relief profiles. We show, however, that thin diffractive elements can be designed to operate with more than one wavelength. A novel, to our knowledge, optimization technique is introduced for this purpose. The maximum phase delay is limited to

Crop thinning operations analysis

Journal of Agricultural Engineering Research, 1972
Monte Carlo Programming techniques are used to simulate real-time field operation of a crop thinning system. Analytical expressions which predict average plant spacings in certain modes of operation are also derived. Use of the computer model allows the development and testing of new concepts in thinning machine design without the expense of building ...

Schrödinger Operators with Thin Spectra

2020
The determination of the spectrum of a Schrödinger operator is a fundamental problem in mathematical quantum mechanics. We discuss a series of results showing that Schrödinger operators can exhibit spectra that are remarkably thin in the sense of Lebesgue measure and fractal dimensions. We begin with a brief discussion of results in the periodic theory,

Reducing the Operating Temperatures of Thin Vlewboxes

Radiology, 1975
Several manufacturers' thin viewboxes operate at excessively high temperatures. The measured equilibrium ballast temperature was 95 degrees C in a 25 degrees C room. Canadian standards limit ballast surface temperatures to 90 degrees C. The ballast cover plate reaches 47 degrees C.

Theory of thin-film transistor operation

Microelectronics Reliability, 1964
Abstract An approximate theory of the thin film transistor is presented. It is proposed that the large observed transconductances of thin film transistors made from polycrystalline CdS films are the result of changes of carrier mobility as well as carrier concentration.

Some remarks on thin operators

Proceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh: Section A Mathematics, 2004
We show that if (Ω, Σ, μ) and (Ω′, Σ′, μ′) are probability spaces, then every regular operator T : Lp(μ) → Lq(μ′), 1 < p < ∞, 1 ≤ q < ∞, is thin if and only if it is strictly singular. We also show that if 0 ≤ S ≤ T : Lp(μ) → Lq(μ′), then T thin implies S is thin. We extend these results to some Köthe function spaces.

Thin absorbers: operational principles and various realizations

IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Magazine, 2016
In this paper we discuss electrically thin absorbers: thin lossy layers which can fully absorb (convert to heat) energy of electromagnetic waves falling on the layer's surface. Most often, thin absorbers are used as covers of metal bodies, and the goal is to eliminate reflections from conducting surfaces, with applications in EMC and stealth technology.

FACTORIZATION OF UNBOUNDED THIN AND COTHIN OPERATORS

Quaestiones Mathematicae, 1999
Abstract Let X and Y be normed spaces and T: D(T) ⊂ X → Y a linear operator. Following R.D. Neidingcr [N1] we recall the Davis, Figiel, Johnson, Pelczynski factorization of T corresponding to a parameter p (1 ≤ p ≤ ∞) and apply the corresponding factorization result in [N1] to unbounded thin operators.

A thin multiwire chamber operating in the high multiplication mode

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, 1983
Abstract The idea of a thin multiwire chamber with thick wires as a possible sampling detector for calorimeters was checked out in practice. Two small test detectors with gas sample thickness of 2 and 3 mm were constructed and tested in the laboratory.

A magnetic thin film microrobot with two operating modes

2011 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2011
Magnetic principles have proved successful for untethered submillimeter microrobotics, although challenges still exist in areas of propulsion and control. This paper presents the design, analysis, and performance results for a bimorph thin film magnetic microrobot utilizing the magnetostrictive principle as a secondary oscillating operation mode.
