Oxidative phosphorylation in Thiobacillus novellus

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1970
Abstract A soluble cell-free fraction (144,000xg supernatent) catalyzed phosphorylation coupled to the oxidation of thiosulfate, succinate and ascorbate yielding P O ratios of 0.96, 1.9, and 0.76 respectively. However with NADH as the electron donor, the P O ratios were very low and ranged between 0.2 – 0.3.

Occurrence of Rhodanese in a Species of Thiobacillus

Nature, 1958
THE enzyme rhodanese which catalyses the reaction: has been shown to be present in Thiobacillus thiocyanoxidans. Cells of the organism, grown in thiosulphate medium with forced aeration and 2–5 per cent of carbon dioxide added1, were harvested in a de Laval centrifugal separator ...

Phenotypic Characteristics of Thiobacillus ferrooxidansStrains

Microbiology, 2001
Phenotypic polymorphism of strains of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans isolated from various ecological niches was studied. The strains differed both in rates of growth and oxidation of Fe2+, S0, FeS2, and sulfide minerals contained in concentrate. Each strain, irrespective of its original environment, required a period of adaptation to a new substrate ...

Cytochrome in Thiobacillus thiooxidans

Science, 1963
Cytochrome is present in the autotrophic sulfur bacterium, Thiobacillus thiooxidans . As mediator in the final electron transfer to oxygen, the cytochrome participates in the oxidation of sulfur compounds by extracts of the organism.

Murein Structure of Three Different Species of Chemolithotrophic Sulfur Bacteria: Thiobacillus tepidarius, Thiobacillus neapolitanus and Thiobacillus versutus

1993
The genus Thiobacillus is an extremely heterogeneous group of bacteria. The only criterion for placing all the species in a single genus is that they all obtain energy for autotrophic growth from the oxidation of inorganic sulfur substrates. Some species are obligately chemolitotrophic and autotrophic (e.g.

Characteristics of Thiobacillus thioparus

Nature, 1960
DURING investigations of the bacterial decomposition of thiosulphate and thiocyanate in effluents from gasworks, it became necessary to identify the organisms responsible. These were Thiobacilli, and one in particular, organism G, appeared identical with T. thioparus as described in Bergey1.

Synergism effect of Thiobacillus Thiooxidans and Thiobacillus Ferrooxidans on the bio-etching

2013
The synergism effect of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans(T.f) and Thiobacillus thiooxidans(T.t) on bio-etching metal material was studied. The rates of bio-etching copper, tin bronze, T10, 40Cr were analysed and compared while T.f, T.t and the mixture of T.f and T.t was used separately.

The Genera Thiobacillus and Thiomicrospira

1981
A common feature of the members of the genera Thiobacillus and Thiomicrospira is their ability to oxidize inorganic sulfur compounds for the generation of energy. Almost all can grow autotrophically, many can develop under organotrophic growth conditions, and some can couple the oxidation of sulfur compounds to the reduction of nitrate and nitrite.
