Purification and Characterization of Inorganic Pyrophosphatase Thiobacillus thiooxidans
The Journal of Biochemistry, 1977An inorganic pyrophosphatase [EC 3.6.1.1] was isolated from Thiobacillus thiooxidans and purified 975-fold to a state of apparent homogeneity. The enzyme catalyzed the hydrolysis of inorganic pyrophosphate and no activity was found with a variety of other phosphate esters.

Biokinetics of Thiobacillus thiooxidans for manganese bioleaching
International Journal of Environment and Pollution, 2010The waste tailing of metals generated during mining processes is degrading the environment by increasing the soil toxicity, leading to disturbances in the ecosystem. This study was initiated to determine the biokinetics of Thiobacillus thiooxidans for manganese bioleaching in the presence of excess sulphur.

Oxidation of H2S in acid solution by Thiobacillus ferrooxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans
Process Biochemistry, 2001Abstract Qualitative and quantitative oxidation tests of H 2 S in acid solution were carried out using Thiobacillus ferrooxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans species. Experiments were performed using solutions of H 2 SO 4 (pH 2.0) containing H 2 S in initial concentrations ranging from 5 to 100 ppm, in shake flasks at 150 rpm and 30°C.

Purification and characterization of 3-isopropylmalate dehydrogenase from Thiobacillus thiooxidans
Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering, 20003-Isopropylmalate dehydrogenase was purified to homogeneity from the acidophilic autotroph Thiobacillus thiooxidans. The native enzyme was a dimer of molecular weight 40,000. The apparent K(m) values for 3-isopropylmalate and NAD+ were estimated to be 0.13 mM and 8.7 mM, respectively.

The Langmuir adsorption parameter X(Am) of a mixture of culture of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans indicates that these bacteria have preferential and competitive adsorption sites on furnace dust. The constant K(A) of the mixture significantly larger than that of each component, suggesting that a synergistic effect may occur in ...

Sphalerite oxidation by Thiobacillus fertooxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1995Sphalerite (ZnS) oxidation was monitored in Thiobacillus ferrooxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans cultures and in abiotic controls by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of solid phases and by chemical analysis of solution composition. X-ray diffraction data revealed no solid-phase reaction products in unsupplemented sphalerite media, whereas minor ...

Iron- and sulfur-oxidizing bacteria identified as Thiobacillus ferrooxidans and T. thiooxidans were successfully enriched from various soil samples contaminated with heavy metals and organic compounds. Depending on the growth medium, the soil sample, and the type of contaminant, the indigenous isolates solubilized > 50% of most of the heavy metals ...

[Function of surface membrane structures in Thiobacillus thiooxidans].
Mikrobiologiia, 1976The function of the surface membrane structures was studied with cytochemical techniques on ultrathin sections of Thiobacillus thiooxidans. The transport of elementary sulphur inside the cell involves the surface membrane structures, while oxidation of the sulphur to sulphuric acid takes place on the outer surface of the cytoplasmic membrane.
