Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics of Thiopental
Clinical Pharmacokinetics, 1998Thiopental is an ultra short-acting barbiturate which remains the standard against which other induction agents are judged; it is also indicated for the therapy of brain hypoxic-ischaemia injuries and status epilepticus. Aspects of drug distribution that govern the onset and end of drug effect have been intensively studied to determine which parameters

Abstract Thiopental is a rapid-acting barbiturate used as an induction agent for anesthesia. Its lipid solubility allows the drug to quickly cross the blood-brain barrier and exert its effects. These effects only last about 30 minutes as it also quickly distributes to other body areas where it becomes inactive.
