Fatal Hemorrhagic Septicemia in Common Guitarfish (Rhinobatos rhinobatos) Caused by Photobacterium damselae Subsp. damselae in a Controlled Environment

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Elasmobranchs, including sharks and rays, are commonly housed in public aquariums due to their ecological significance and educational value. The common guitarfish (Rhinobatos rhinobatos), currently listed as ‘Critically Endangered’ by the IUCN, is particularly susceptible to population declines due to overfishing and bycatch.

Stem Cells From Dental Pulp, Periodontal Tissues, and Other Oral Sources: Biological Concepts and Regenerative Potential

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
A graphical abstract recapping the different sources of dental, periodontal, and other oral‐derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) and their regenerative mechanisms and potentials. The review's article findings bridge fundamental biological science with translational advances, highlighting the significance of MSCs in craniofacial regenerative ...

Hydrogen peroxide thermochemical oscillator as driver for primordial RNA replication

open access: yes, 2014
This paper presents and tests a previously unrecognised mechanism for driving a replicating molecular system on the prebiotic earth. It is proposed that cell-free RNA replication in the primordial soup may have been driven by self-sustained oscillatory ...

Sodium thiosulfate treatment rescues hyperglycaemia‐induced pronephros damage in zebrafish by upregulating nitric oxide signalling

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Sodium thiosulfate (STS) rescues the pronephros phenotype of pdx1 morphants through compensatory upregulation of nitric oxide (NO) metabolism. Zebrafish larvae injected with a control morpholino show the typical pronephros structure at 48 h post‐fertilization (hpf) with and without STS treatment.

Efficient dynamic simulation of pH in processes associated to biofiltration of volatile inorganic pollutants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This work proposes a generic methodology to include the pH as a state variable in mathematical models of bioreactors. An ordinary differential equation for pH is stated and introduced into the general model structure of a biotrickling filter.
