Photometric Study of W UMa Type Binaries in the Old Open Cluster Berkeley 39 [PDF]
The study of W UMa binary systems give a wealth of information about its nature as well as about its parent body (if any), like clusters. In this paper, we present the I passband photometric solutions of four W UMa binaries in the open cluster Berkeley ...

Close encounters of the third-body kind
We simulated encounters involving binaries of two eccentricities: e = 0 (i.e., circular binaries) and e = 0.5. In both cases the binary contained a point mass of 1.4 solar masses (i.e., a neutron star) and a 0.8 solar masses main-sequence star modeled as a polytrope. The semimajor axes of both binaries were set to 60 solar radii (0.28 AU).

ABSTRACT Introduction Bloodstream infections due to repeated vascular access (VA) puncture and circuit connections remain major concerns in hemodialysis. Therefore, we examined current practices for glove, disinfectant, and personal protective equipment (PPE) use according to VA type in national university hospitals in Japan.

Eclipsing Binaries Showing Light Time Effect
Four eclipsing binaries, which show apparent changes of period, have been studied with respect to a possible presence of the light time effect. With a least squares method we calculated new light elements of these systems, the mass function of the ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

The Force Between Two Sliding Bodies When Observed from a Third Moving Body
This paper pertains to the observations of the sliding friction force from different moving bodies. The paper derives the equations required to predict the forces on the free-body diagrams of two sliding bodies when observed from a third moving body. The

Can angular momentum loss cause the period change of NN Ser?
NN Ser is a non mass-transferring pre-cataclysmic variable containing a white dwarf with a mass of $\sim 0.5 M_{\odot}$ and an M dwarf secondary star with a mass of $\sim 0.2 M_{\odot}$.
