EMT‐associated bias in the Parsortix® system observed with pancreatic cancer cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The Parsortix® system was tested for CTC enrichment using pancreatic cancer cell lines with different EMT phenotypes. Spike‐in experiments showed lower recovery of mesenchymal‐like cells. This was confirmed with an EMT‐inducible breast cancer cell line.

The third Bond [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 2006
When James Watson and Francis Crick unveiled their structure of DNA, one of the two kinds of base pair in the molecule was given two hydrogen bonds instead of three. Who spotted the third bond and when?

Third Generation Disadvantage among Mexican Americans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Among Mexican Americans, generational differences in education do not fit with assimilation theory’s predictions of significant improvement from the second to third generation; instead, education for third generation remains similar to the second ...

Cytomegalovirus infection is common in prostate cancer and antiviral therapies inhibit progression in disease models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Human cytomegalovirus infection is common in normal prostate epithelium, prostate tumor tissue, and prostate cancer cell lines. CMV promotes cell survival, proliferation, and androgen receptor signaling. Anti‐CMV pharmaceutical compounds in clinical use inhibited cell expansion in prostate cancer models in vitro and in vivo, motivating investigation ...

Positive feedback cycle of TNFα promotes staphylococcal enterotoxin B-induced THP-1 cell apoptosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2016
Staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB) has been demonstrated to be of importance in Staphylococcus aureus related diseases, such as atopic dermatitis (AD).

Integrative miRNOMe profiling reveals the miR‐195‐5p–CHEK1 axis and its impact on luminal breast cancer outcomes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In luminal (ER+) breast carcinoma (BC), miRNA profiling identified miR‐195‐5p as a key regulator of proliferation that targets CHEK1, CDC25A, and CCNE1. High CHEK1 expression correlates with worse relapse‐free survival after chemotherapy, especially in patients with luminal A subtype.

Effect of thymosin alpha-1 on subpopulations of Th1, Th2, Th17, and regulatory T cells (Tregs) in vitro

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2012
Thymosin alpha 1 (Tα1) has been shown to have beneficial effects on numerous immune system parameters, but little is known about the effects of Tα1 on patients with gastric carcinoma.

ITGAV and SMAD4 influence the progression and clinical outcome of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In SMAD4‐positive pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), integrin subunit alpha V (ITGAV) activates latent TGF‐β, which binds to the TGF‐β receptor and phosphorylates SMAD2/3. The activated SMAD2/3 forms a complex with SMAD4, and together they translocate to the nucleus, modulating gene expression to promote proliferation, migration, and invasion. In
