A model of third body abrasive friction and wear in hot metal forming
Wear, 1999A model of friction accounting for third body particles at the contact interface is derived from a simple micro-mechanical model of a particle interacting with a hard tool surface and a soft workpiece surface. Also a wear law coupled with this friction model is proposed.

Effect of Microseparation and Third-Body Particles on Dual-Mobility Crosslinked Hip Liner Wear
The Journal of Arthroplasty, 2014Large heads have been recommended to reduce the risk of dislocation after total hip arthroplasty. One of the issues with larger heads is the risk of increased wear and damage in thin polyethylene liners. Dual-mobility liners have been proposed as an alternative to large heads.

Wear Particle Life in a Sliding Contact Under Dry Conditions : Third Body Approach
2001The third body approach is a very useful and pragmatic tool for analysing and understanding the friction and wear behaviour of sliding materials. This approach, introduced by M. Godet in the middle of the 1970’s, is based on the concept of dynamic screen played by the whole debris (“ third body ”) detached from the rubbing surfaces (“ first bodies ...
