Cardiac morphological and morphometric analysis of Ardea alba

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Ardea alba (Linnaeus, 1758) is a widely distributed heron species whose cardiovascular morphology remains poorly described. This study aimed to characterize the cardiac morphology and morphometry of adult A. alba. Ten specimens were analyzed using radiographic, morphometric, histological, scanning electron microscopy, and three‐dimensional ...

Description of large, well‐preserved Enchodus specimens from the Bearpaw Formation of Alberta, Canada

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Fishes of the genus Enchodus were abundant and cosmopolitan in the Late Cretaceous, but are primarily known from isolated remains in Canada. Four well‐preserved fish skulls were recovered in recent years from ammolite mines sampling the Bearpaw Formation of Southern Alberta, and are here referred to Enchodus petrosus Cope, 1874.

Surgical Anatomy of the Internal Thoracic Artery

open access: yesThe Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1997
The internal thoracic artery (ITA) has become increasingly important in coronary artery bypass grafting due to the excellent long-term results. This study reviews its anatomic characteristics. The ITAs of 100 cadavers were examined and their origin, relation to the phrenic nerve, presence of lateral costal branch; origin of pericardiacophrenic arteries,

Legal and ethical considerations around the use of existing illustrations to generate new illustrations in the anatomical sciences

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, Volume 18, Issue 3, Page 289-300, March 2025.
Abstract It is likely existing anatomical illustrations are often used as the basis for new illustrative works, given not all illustrators have access to human tissues, bodies, or prosections on which to base their illustrations. Potential issues arise with this practice in the realms of copyright infringement and plagiarism when authors are seeking to
