Neither Ethical nor Prudent: Why Not to Choose Normothermic Regional Perfusion
Abstract In transplant medicine, the use of normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) in donation after circulatory determination of death raises ethical difficulties. NRP is objectionable because it restores the donor's circulation, thus invalidating a death declaration based on the permanent cessation of circulation.

Large animal models are essential for experimental progress in organ transplant procedures and donor organ interventions. This review provides a summary of two major organ donation procedures, a detailed methods description and pharmacopeia for these procedures, an overview of existing research progress in these areas, and our experience in potential ...

Normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) has recently been used to augment organ donation after circulatory death (DCD) to improve the quantity and quality of transplantable organs. In DCD‐NRP, after withdrawal of life‐sustaining therapies and cardiopulmonary arrest, patients are cannulated onto extracorporeal membrane oxygenation to reestablish blood ...

Financial impact of donation after circulatory death heart transplantation: A single‐center analysis
Abstract Introduction Clinical success of donation after circulatory death (DCD) heart transplantation is leading to growing adoption of this technique. In comparison to procurement from a brain‐dead donor, DCD requires additional resources. The economic impact of DCD heart transplantation from the hospital perspective is not well known.
