Reflux Dissolution of Thorium Dioxide in Nitric Acid

open access: yesHe huaxue yu fangshe huaxue
This study aims to investigate the reflux dissolution process of thorium dioxide in nitric acid, seeking an alternative to the current fluoride ion-dependent dissolution methods to prevent corrosion of stainless steel dissolvers and subsequent processing

Fabrication of Thorium and Thorium Dioxide

open access: yesNatural Science, 2015
Thorium based nuclear fuel is of immense interest to India by virtue of the abundance of Thorium and relative shortage of Uranium. Thorium metal tubes were being cold drawn using copper as cladding to prevent die seizure. After cold drawing, the copper was removed by dissolution in nitric acid. Thorium does not dissolve being passivated by nitric acid.

Thorium dioxide, forgotten but not gone

open access: yesThe British Journal of Radiology, 1991
The recent report edited by Taylor et al (1989) reminds us of the continuing risk of morbidity in patients exposed to thorium. We present three cases, with hepatic sequelae, in which the radiological diagnosis was missed on initial presentation. They illustrate the need to be alert to the possibility of Thorotrast toxicity. Thorotrast, a

Energy Transfer‐Mediated Magnetoluminescence of an Octahedral MnII Complex Ligated With Bis(Diphenylphosphino)Methane Dioxide

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Energy‐transfer‐mediated magnetoluminescence of paramagnetic transition metal complexes: dope solids of an octahedral MnII complex into the corresponding ZnII complex exhibited a pronounced magnetic field response of emission spectra under the application of magnetic fields.

Rapidly Diversifying Hydrogen‐Bonded Organic Frameworks With Permanent Porosity

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
This article reviews diversifying hydrogen‐bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) with permanent porosity reported over the past 15 years, based on the molecular structures of their constituent tectons. Furthermore, several distinctive aspects and concepts are described, such as permanent porosity, isostructural (isoreticular) HOFs, and multicomponent mixed ...

Synchronization‐Dissipation in the Cardiorespiratory System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By modeling central nervous coupling and viscoelastic interactions in the cardiorespiratory system we show that synchronization produces a 10% gain in cardiac efficiency in humans. It is surmised that respiratory sinus arrhythmia improves cardiac pumping efficiency by reducing dynamic stress and power dissipation in the pulmonary vasculature.

A density functional theory study of uranium-doped thoria and uranium adatoms on the major surfaces of thorium dioxide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Thorium dioxide is of significant research interest for its use as a nuclear fuel, particularly as part of mixed oxide fuels. We present the results of a density functional theory (DFT) study of uranium-substituted thorium dioxide, where we found that ...

STAID: A Self‐Refining Deep Learning Framework for Spatial Cell‐Type Deconvolution with Biologically Informed Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
STAID is a unified deep learning framework that couples iterative pseudo‐spot refinement with neural network training through a feedback loop and exploits gene co‐expression information to model higher‐order interactions, achieving accurate and robust cell‐type deconvolution in spatial transcriptomics.

ROS‐Targeted Nanomotor Therapy in OA: Cartilage Protection and Pain Relief

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ROS‐responsive NM@MET nanomotors utilize elevated ROS in osteoarthritic joints to promote deep penetration into cartilage and synovium and enable sustained metformin release. By scavenging ROS, regulating NRF2/KEAP1 signaling, protecting chondrocytes, suppressing synovial inflammation, and attenuating nociceptive signaling, NM@MET alleviates pain and ...

Computational Symmetric Grain Boundary Energy of Thorium Dioxide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
With fossil fuels being depleted at a faster rate than ever, there has been an effort to convert fossil fuel energy to different forms of green energy. One of these forms is nuclear power, and while nuclear power itself is not new, new fuel sources for ...
