Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A Bus-Based Static Volumetric Three-Dimensional Active Matrix Display With a One-Dimensional Connection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This study explores a bus-based static volumetric (SV) three-dimensional (3D) active matrix display (AMD) with a one-dimensional (1D) connection. The 1D connection enabled implementation by reducing the physical structure and electrical connection of the

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Studying the Recent Improvements in Holograms for Three-Dimensional Display

open access: yesInternational Journal of Optics, 2014
Displayers tend to become three-dimensional. The most advantage of holographic 3D displays is the possibility to observe 3D images without using glasses. The quality of created images by this method has surprised everyone. In this paper, the experimental

Efficient rendering for three-dimensional displays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This thesis explores more efficient methods for visualizing point data sets on three-dimensional (3D) displays. Point data sets are used in many scientific applications, e.g. cosmological simulations.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Resolution Improvement in Near-Virtual-Image-Mode Light-Field Display Using Resolution-Priority Technique

open access: yesApplied Sciences
A light-field display with a near-virtual-image mode, which employs both a lens array and an aperture array, was previously proposed to provide a wide viewing zone angle and bright three-dimensional (3D) images.
