THE ACCURACY OF BEAM-AVERAGED INTERFEROMETRIC TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENTS IN A THREE-DIMENSIONAL FIELD
Experimental Heat Transfer, 2001A classical or holographic interferometer can be used to measure the average fluid temperature integrated in the direction of the test/object beam. However, such beam-averaged measurements are not exact for a three-dimensional temperature field, when a standard two-dimensional analysis technique is applied.

THE FIELDS OF TEMPERATURE, PRESSURE, AND THREE-DIMENSIONAL MOTION IN SELECTED WEATHER SITUATIONS
Journal of Meteorology, 1947Abstract The fields of temperature, pressure, and three-dimensional motion are shown on horizontal charts and vertical cross sections for a period of anticyclogenesis above a polar anticyclone and for periods of cyclogenesis in Colorado and on the east coast of the United States.

The study of three-dimensional flow phenomena is applicable to a large number of thermal engineering systems. Optical tomography using multidirectional interferometric data holds great promise to quantitatively investigate three-dimensional flow and heat transfer phenomena.
