Pre-operative thromboelastography predicts transfusion during liver transplantation

open access: yes, 2021
Orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) can require large volumes of blood products. Identifying patients unlikely to need platelet transfusion would conserve inventory.

Valproic acid for treatment of traumatic brain injury: Study protocol for the VIBRANT prospective randomized trial

open access: yesTransfusion, Volume 66, Issue S1, Page S266-S277, May 2026.
Abstract Background Traumatic brain injury (TBI) carries significant mortality and morbidity in civilian and military populations. Current treatment guidelines for TBI are primarily supportive, and no pharmacological agent exists to attenuate the progression of brain injury.

Thromboelastographic Assessment of Coagulation Profiles in Dogs with Cardiac Tumors and Their Relationship to Cardiac Function

open access: yesAnimals
Cardiac tumors are rare and linked to high mortality rates in both human and veterinary medicine. Despite their clinical significance, the effects of these tumors on coagulation and cardiac function remain poorly understood.

Parameters of Thromboelastography in Healthy Newborns [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Clinical Pathology, 2008
Thromboelastography (TEG) aids in monitoring a patient's global hemostatic system by measuring the rate of clot formation, clot strength, and stability. The usefulness of TEG in pediatric settings, especially with neonates, is limited owing to a lack of neonatal reference values.

Estrogen as a therapeutic agent: Targeting endotheliopathy and coagulopathy in trauma

open access: yesTransfusion, Volume 66, Issue S1, Page S224-S232, May 2026.
Abstract Background Traumatic injury remains a leading cause of death, often due to uncontrolled hemorrhage and trauma‐induced coagulopathy (TIC). TIC is critically triggered by the endotheliopathy of trauma, involving endothelial cell injury and glycocalyx degradation. Despite conventional advances, the stable casualty rate underscores the urgent need

Critical trigger thresholds for hemostatic management: a narrative review of viscoelastic hemostatic assay applications

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
Viscoelastic haemostasis assays (VHA) are increasingly used in clinical practice. These bedside whole-blood tests, commonly implemented through thromboelastography (TEG) and rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM), are prized for their speed, accuracy, and

Evaluation of thromboelastography in bitches with pyometra [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation, 2017
We investigated the effect of pyometra on kaolin-activated thromboelastography (TEG). Eighteen client-owned dogs with pyometra and 8 healthy spayed dogs were recruited. TEG parameters and packed cell volume were determined. Results from spayed females and from intact females with pyometra were compared using a Student t-test and Wilcoxon rank sum test.

Anesthesia Management Using Remimazolam in A Patient With Bernard‐Soulier Syndrome: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports
Bernard‐Soulier syndrome (BSS) is a platelet dysfunction disorder characterized by massive thrombocytopenia and a lack of platelet aggregation. Remimazolam, a short‐acting benzodiazepine sedative, is believed to have minimal effects on platelets.

Evaluation of the Effects on Coagulation Variables of Experimental Pneumoperitoneum by Thromboelastography Method

open access: yesVan Tıp Dergisi, 2018
INTRODUCTION: Pneumoperitoneum used during laparascopy results in certain pathophysiological changes. This study was designed to investigate the effects of pneumoperitoneum on coagulation using the thromboelastographic method in relation to different ...
