International Comparison of Geriatric‐Associated Variables in Major Gastroenterological Surgery Between National Clinical Database and American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program

Geriatric surgical risk factors and outcomes were compared between the US and Japanese databases. Geriatric‐associated preoperative variables and outcomes similarly increased with age. Influence of Facility Size on Perioperative Outcomes in Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy for 14 152 Patients With Esophageal Cancer Based on the Japanese National Clinical Database: A Multicenter Cohort Study

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This multicenter study investigated 14 152 minimally invasive esophagectomies (MIEs) using data from the Japanese National Clinical Database and showed a significantly lower operative mortality rate in high‐volume centers than in low‐volume centers. However, no differences in morbidity rates were found between facility sizes.
