Thrust force requirements for TBMs in squeezing ground

Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology, 2010
Rapidly converging ground may exert such a high pressure on the shield that the thrust force is no longer sufficient to overcome shield skin friction and the TBM becomes jammed. This paper advances a number of theory-based decision aids, which will support rapid, initial assessments to be made of thrust force requirements.

Evaluation of Thrust Force and Cutting Torque in Reaming

1996
Reaming is a process that is widely used in industry with very little theoretical modelling being carried out. In this paper the cutting action of the reaming operation is presented by explaining the thrust and torque involved. A model based on an orthogonal theory of machining and variable flow stress is presented in order to predict the thrust and ...

Increased Jet Thrust from Pressure Forces

Journal of the Aeronautical Sciences, 1950
For ram-jets and turbojets, which operate with low overall jet expansion ratios, it is possible to obtain more thrust with incomplete expansion in the jet nozzle utilizing both pressure and momentum forces than with complete expansion utilizing momentum forces alone.

Analytical modeling of thrust force and torque in drilling

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part B: Journal of Engineering Manufacture, 2013
The prediction of thrust force and torque in drilling remains a key issue. There are three main ways to determine these forces based on experimental, numerical and finally analytical approaches. The major drawback with numerical and analytical methods concerns their reliability compared to phenomenological models.

Prediction of thrust forces in tubular induction machines

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1992
Standstill forces on tubular induction machines are calculated by two methods: a simple one-dimensional technique and a two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element analysis. The end effect force produced by the finite length of the machine is calculated. The work is confirmed by tests taken on a practical machine. >

Thrust force calculations for pressure safety valves

Process Safety Progress, 2006
AbstractWhen a pressure safety valve actuates, thrust forces are developed. These thrust forces must be considered for the proper installation of the relieving device. For gas or vapor compressible flow, Simpson developed thrust force plots that can be used to calculate the magnitude of the thrust force.

Transient Thrust Forces on a Twin Scroll Turbocharger

Volume 8: Microturbines, Turbochargers and Small Turbomachines; Steam Turbines, 2017
The bearing system of turbochargers used in trucks needs to be optimized in order to reduce the frictional losses. This helps in transmitting the exhaust energy more efficiently to the compressor wheel to increase boost pressure. Understanding the thrust loading on the axial bearing helps in optimal design of the bearing and the associated lubrication ...

Thrust Measurement Using Force Sensitive Resistor

2017 IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Computing Research (ICCIC), 2017
Mini/micro nozzles are used in digital propulsion systems for generating milli/micro thrust. Such systems are used in satellites for precise control and positioning. The measurement of milli thrust which is of the order of few Newton requires specialized measuring systems.

Thrust Force Analyses in Drilling FRP Composites

2020
Whenever fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites are drilled to produce a hole, it is necessary to obtain the desired dimensional requirements with minimal surface and sub-surface damage. A number of complications arise in this process, such as multiphase laminated materials (hard reinforced fibers within soft polymer matrix) and complex cutting ...

The Propeller Thrust Force Analysis

2002
The paper analyzes the propeller thrust force production as a function to the radius of the propeller blade. The thrust force generated on the particular radius of the propeller blade contributes to the total thrust force as well as to the total resistance of the propeller.
