Thrust Ripple of a Permanent Magnet LSM With Step Skewed Magnets

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2012
This paper analyzes the thrust characteristics of the investigated permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) and discusses their differences with those of rotary motors. It shows that the main components of the thrust ripple are second, fourth, and sixth harmonics, which is produced by end-effect, not the 12th harmonic caused by cogging.

Thrust Ripples Suppression of Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2007
The thrust ripples in permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) are mainly generated by the distortion of the stator flux linkage distribution, reluctance force due to the relative position between the mover and stator, cogging force caused by the interaction between the permanent magnet (PM) and the iron core, and the end effects.

Effects of different chopping modes on the thrust ripple of electromagnetic launchers

2012 16th International Symposium on Electromagnetic Launch Technology, 2012
Brushless DC linear motors have considerable advantages of simpler structure, higher efficiency, higher thrust density and so on. They are well suited for many domains such as electromagnetic launch and launch-assist, and their winding currents usually are square-wave.

Magnet Skew Technology Investigation for the Reduction of PMLSM Thrust Ripple

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
Thrust characteristics of permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) are analyzed. It shows that frequency spectrums of thrust ripple, which are mainly caused by end-effect, are quite similar for linear motors with different pole/slot combinations. To apply magnet skew technology, a method using piecewise magnet for skewing factor computation is
