Stretched-pulse operation of a thulium-doped fiber laser

open access: yesOptics Express, 2008
We report on stretched-pulse operation of a thulium-doped fiber laser. The laser generated pulses at a center wavelength of 1974 nm with an energy of 4 nJ that could externally be compressed to a duration of 173 fs.

Ultra-short wavelength operation of thulium-doped fiber amplifiers and lasers [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Express, 2019
We fabricate and characterize a germanium/thulium (Ge/Tm) co-doped silica fiber in order to enhance the gain at the short wavelength edge of the thulium emission band (i.e. 1620-1660 nm). The Ge/Tm doped fiber shows an intrinsic blue-shifted absorption/emission cross-section compared to aluminum/thulium (Al/Tm) co-doped fiber, which greatly improves ...

Temperature investigation of low SWaP thulium-doped fiber lasers

open access: yesOptics Express
We investigate the temperature dependence of an in-band core-pumped thulium-doped fiber laser with a low SWaP (size, weight, and power) architecture. The temperature investigation is carried out both experimentally and numerically by a simulation model.

Wavelength-Switchable Single-Longitudinal- Mode Thulium-Doped Fiber Laser With Sampled Fiber Bragg Grating

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
A wavelength-switchable single-longitudinal-mode thulium-doped fiber laser using a sampled fiber Bragg grating is proposed in this study. The laser can be switched between three single-wavelength and three dual-wavelength modes of operation.

Thulium-doped Fiber Amplifier for Optical Communications at 2µm [PDF]

open access: yesOptical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2013, 2013
We report the first experimental realization and detailed characterization of thulium doped fiber amplifiers (TDFAs) specifically designed for optical communications providing high gain (>35 dB), noise figure as low as 5 dB, and over 100 nm wide bandwidth around 2 µm. A maximum saturated output power of 1.2 W was achieved with a slope efficiency of 50%.

Mode-locked thulium-doped fiber laser with microfiber based polarization beam splitter

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2020
We report on a passively mode-locked thulium-doped all-fiber laser utilizing our fabricated microfiber-based polarization beam splitters (PBSs). The all-fiber PBSs composed of two parallel and coupled microfibers are fabricated to separate light in two ...

Thulium-doped optical fibers for fiber lasers operating at around 2 µm [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences: Technical Sciences, 2019
The paper deals with spectral and lasing characteristics of thulium-doped optical fibers fabricated by means of two doping techniques, i.e. via a conventional solution-doping method and via a nanoparticle-doping method.

Bound-State Soliton and Noise-like Pulse Generation in a Thulium-Doped Fiber Laser Based on a Nonlinear Optical Loop Mirror

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
We demonstrate a thulium-doped, mode-locked, all-fiber laser capable of operating in two generation regimes: dispersion-managed soliton and noise-like pulse (NLP).
