High Power Thulium Doped Fiber Lasers

Optical Fiber Communication Conference and National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2009
Thulium-doped silica fiber lasers and amplifiers offer a route to very high average power in the two-micron wavelength regime. This presentation reviews recent progress and considers the prospects for further improvement in performance.

Tunable thulium-doped all-fiber laser

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1998
We demonstrate a tunable thulium-doped fiber ring laser wherein a single fused coupler acts simultaneously as the wavelength-division multiplexing for pump radiation, a lasing wavelength selective element, and output mirror. Temperature tuning of up to 2 nm//spl deg/C over a range of 40 nm and polarization tuning of over 100 nm within the spectral ...

Q-switched thulium-doped photonic crystal fiber laser

Optics Letters, 2012
We report a novel, Tm-doped photonic crystal fiber (PCF) actively Q-switched oscillator that provides ~8.9 kW peak power with 435 µJ, 49 ns pulses at 10 kHz repetition rate at 2 μm wavelength. This fiber has a mode-field area >1000 μm2, the largest of any flexible PCF providing diffraction-limited beam quality to the best of our knowledge.

Q-switched thulium-doped fiber laser

Optical Engineering, 1993
A tunable Q-switched thulium-doped single-mode silica fiber laser is presented for the first time. Its performance is analyzed as a function of pulse repetition rate and pumping power. The optimization of laser parameters resulted in 4 W/1 30 ns, 1 .92-jrm wavelength pulses generated at a 4-kHz repetition rate. From the measured values of small- signal

Mode-locked tunable thulium-doped fiber laser

SPIE Proceedings, 2017
We report on an all-fiber, actively mode-locked, tunable, Thulium-doped, fiber laser based on a 20-GHz bandwidth electro-optic intensity modulator (EOM) and a voltage driven 2-μm, intra-cavity, fiber-coupled, Fabry-Perot tunable filter (FFP-TF). The repetition rate of output pulses was 47 MHz and the shortest measured output pulse width was 445 ps.

Switchable multiwavelength thulium-doped fiber ring lasers

Optical Engineering, 2013
Two kinds of thulium-doped fiber ring lasers based on a spatial mode beating filter and comb filtering effect are presented and experimen- tally demonstrated, which all show multiwavelength laser spectrum around 2 μm. In the implementation of the first type of experiment configuration by the use of a piece of multimode fiber (MMF) as a spatial mode ...

The slope efficiency of 2μm thulium doped fiber laser

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
In order to obtain high slope efficiency of 2 μm laser output, it is essential to design operating parameters of fiber laser prior to the experiment. Based on the rate equations, the pump and signal power equations of thulium doped fiber laser have been built.
