Anti-Inflammatory Activity of Thymol and Thymol-Rich Essential Oils: Mechanisms, Applications, and Recent Findings

open access: yesMolecules
Thymol, a monoterpenoid phenol present in the essential oils of several aromatic plants, has attracted considerable attention for its anti-inflammatory effects, often in combination with other bioactive compounds. This work explores the mechanisms behind

Lysis of Vibrio cholerae by Thymol [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1957
CULTURES of Vibrio cholerae are very sensitive to thymol. The addition of 50 mgm. of this substance to 10 ml. of 4-hr. broth cultures results in rapid clearing due to massive lysis of the organisms. This takes about 30–45 min. at 37° C., by which time the cultures are sterile.

Developmental stage ordering yields greater cranial mineralization sequence resolution than embryo size or days since oviposition: A case study using the gekkotan Eublepharis macularius (Blyth, 1854)

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
We employ a set of leopard gecko embryos for which size, day of development, and developmental stage are known to assess which timetable accords with the greatest resolution of cranial mineralization events. Developmental staging yielded the best outcome. Abstract Mineralization sequences of cranial elements (often referred to as ossification sequences)

Fracture resistance and behavior of endodontically treated maxillary premolars with varying ferrule heights and post numbers: A laboratory study

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To investigate how varying ferrule heights and the number of glass fiber posts affect fracture resistance and behavior of endodontically treated maxillary first premolars with substantial loss of tooth structure. Materials and Methods Twenty‐four extracted endodontically treated human maxillary first premolars were divided into three ...

Hydraulic fast‐setting calcium silicate cement for crown cementation

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study evaluated film thickness, diametral tensile strength (DTS), and crown retentive strength of hydraulic fast‐set calcium silicate cement (fast‐set CSC) compared to conventional luting cements. Materials and Methods Fast‐set CSC was compared to zinc phosphate cement and glass ionomer cement.

Biotransformation of monoterpenols upon pre‐treatment with oregano essential oil vapour alleviates downy mildew susceptibility in grapevine leaves

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Pre‐treatment of grapevine plants with oregano essential oil vapour alleviates downy mildew susceptibility by accumulation of monoterpenol glycosides. Abstract Grapevine downy mildew, caused by the oomycete Plasmopara viticola, is a destructive disease that causes major economic losses as most elite grapevine cultivars are susceptible to this pathogen.

Pilot evaluation of thymol-loaded chitosan gel as a complementary topical therapy for cutaneous leishmaniasis

open access: yesCarbohydrate Polymer Technologies and Applications
Objective: Cutaneous leishmaniasis is a parasitic skin disease endemic in Iran, with limited effective treatments. Pentavalent antimony compounds like Glucantime have been the standard treatment for over 60 years, but their toxicity and variable efficacy

Thymol Preserves Spermatogenesis and Androgen Production in Cisplatin-Induced Testicular Toxicity by Modulating Ferritinophagy, Oxidative Stress, and the Keap1/Nrf2/HO-1 Pathway

open access: yesBiomolecules
Cisplatin (CDDP) is a widely used chemotherapeutic agent, but its off-target toxicity, including testicular damage, limits clinical use. Bioactive compounds may help mitigate chemotherapy-induced reproductive toxicity.

Chemical agents to control biofilm formation in step 1 of care—Toothpastes and mouthwashes/concepts and challenges

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Maintaining optimal oral hygiene is important for overall oral care, ensuring the well‐being of teeth and their surrounding tissues. In addition, it promotes fresh breath and a pleasing smile. A key element of oral self‐care is the daily use of toothpaste during regular brushing.

Treating age‐related loss of muscle mass and function: Where should we be focusing?

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Perturbations contributing to the age‐related loss of muscle mass and strength. A, in the spinal cord, self‐reinforcing cycles of oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction and inflammation mediated by cells, including microglia, contribute to motor neuron degeneration.
