A systematic review on the role of artificial intelligence in sonographic diagnosis of thyroid cancer: Past, present and future [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Thyroid cancer is common worldwide, with a rapid increase in prevalence across North America in recent years. While most patients present with palpable nodules through physical examination, a large number of small and medium-sized nodules are detected by ultrasound examination. Suspicious nodules are then sent for biopsy through fine needle aspiration.

Multi-channel deep convolutional neural networks for multi-classifying thyroid disease [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Thyroid disease instances have been continuously increasing since the 1990s, and thyroid cancer has become the most rapidly rising disease among all the malignancies in recent years. Most existing studies focused on applying deep convolutional neural networks for detecting thyroid cancer.

Long non‐coding RNAs as therapeutic targets in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and clinical application

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Long non‐coding RNAs (lncRNAs) occupy an abundant fraction of the eukaryotic transcriptome and an emerging area in cancer research. Regulation by lncRNAs is based on their subcellular localization in HNSCC. This cartoon shows the various functions of lncRNAs in HNSCC discussed in this review.

ERCC6L facilitates the progression of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma by the binding of FOXM1 and KIF4A

open access: yesCell Death Discovery, 2023
The role of excision repair cross-complementation group 6-like (ERCC6L) has been reported in several cancers, but little is known about its expression and function in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC).

Ultrasound Image Segmentation of Thyroid Nodule via Latent Semantic Feature Co-Registration [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Segmentation of nodules in thyroid ultrasound imaging plays a crucial role in the detection and treatment of thyroid cancer. However, owing to the diversity of scanner vendors and imaging protocols in different hospitals, the automatic segmentation model, which has already demonstrated expert-level accuracy in the field of medical image segmentation ...

Integrative Analysis of the Expression Levels and Prognostic Values for NEK Family Members in Breast Cancer

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2022
Background: In the latest rankings, breast cancer ranks first in incidence and fifth in mortality among female malignancies worldwide. Early diagnosis and treatment can improve the prognosis and prolong the survival of breast cancer (BC) patients.

Risk factors for postoperative haemorrhage after total thyroidectomy: clinical results based on 2,678 patients

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
The aim of this study was to analyse postoperative haemorrhage (POH) after a total thyroidectomy and explore the possible risk factors. Records of patients receiving a total thyroidectomy were reviewed and analysed for risk factors of POH. From the 2,678

RUSC1‐AS1 promotes the malignant progression of breast cancer depending on the regulation of the miR‐326/XRCC5 pathway

open access: yesThoracic Cancer, 2023
Background Many long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are the key regulators for cancer progression, including breast cancer (BC). RUSC1 antisense 1 (RUSC1‐AS1) has been found to be highly expressed in BC, but its role and potential molecular mechanism in BC ...

A comparative analysis of deep learning architectures with data augmentation and multichannel input for locoregional breast cancer radiotherapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Studies on deep learning dose prediction increasingly focus on 3D models with multiple input channels and data augmentation, which increases the training time and thus also the environmental burden and hampers the ease of re‐training. Here we compare 2D and 3D U‐Net models with clinical accepted plans to evaluate the appropriateness of

Role of elective neck dissection in cT2N0 maxillary sinus squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesScientific Reports
Our objective was to examine the impact of elective neck dissection (END) on the prognosis of patients with cT2N0 maxillary sinus squamous cell carcinoma (MS-SCC) and to determine factors that predict the occurrence of occult metastasis in this patient ...
