Experimental Infection of Amblyomma aureolatum Ticks with Rickettsia rickettsii
We experimentally infected Amblyomma aureolatum ticks with the bacterium Rickettsia rickettsii, the etiologic agent of Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF). These ticks are a vector for RMSF in Brazil. R.

Most matter is nominally frozen in the polar regions or space, and liquid crystal materials are no exception. Consequently, soft actuators, including liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs), are inoperative under such extreme cold in response to stimuli, as their motion relies on mechanical deformation.

Harmful and Harmless Soil-Dwelling Fungi Indicate Microhabitat Suitability for Off-Host Ixodid Ticks
Following blood meals or questing bouts, hard ticks (Ixodidae) must locate moist off-host microhabitats as refuge. Soil-dwelling fungi, including entomopathogenic Beauveria bassiana (Bb), thrive in moist microhabitats.

Filarial Nematode Infection in Ixodes scapularis Ticks Collected from Southern Connecticut
It was recently demonstrated that the lone star tick Amblyomma americanum could harbor filarial nematodes within the genus Acanthocheilonema. In this study, Ixodes scapularis (deer) ticks collected from Southern Connecticut were evaluated for their ...

Smart Nanogels as Enzyme‐Driven Nanomotors for Navigating Viscous Physiological Barriers
Two families of urease‐powered nanomotors (NMs), with and without a p‐(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (p‐HEMA) shell, have been successfully prepared. Both types exhibit effective motion in highly viscous synovial fluid media at low urea concentrations (25 mM).

Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...
