Molecular screening of tick-borne pathogens in host-seeking Haemaphysalis punctata Canestrini & Fanzago, 1878 (Ixodoidea: Ixodidae) in Anatolia with the first report of Burana virus

open access: yesParasites & Vectors
Background Haemaphysalis punctata is a widespread Palearctic tick species, yet its role in the circulation of tick-borne pathogens in Türkiye remains poorly characterized.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Distribution of Tick Vectors of Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome Virus (SFTSV) Collected from Four Environments in Jeju

open access: yesKorean Journal of Clinical Laboratory Science, 2020
The distribution of ticks and severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) pathogens were investigated by collecting ticks from March to November 2018 in four environments (grass fields, copses, mountain roads, and tombs) in Jeju.

Prevalence of Borrelia burgdorferi in ticks removed from skin of people and circumstances of being bitten – research from the area of Poland, 2012–2014

open access: yesAnnals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine, 2018
Introduction During feeding, the tick sucks blood from the host along with the pathogens that are in the blood, simultaneously exchanging its own pathogens with the host. Humans can also be a host.

Spatial and temporal patterns of the emerging tick-borne pathogen Borrelia miyamotoi in blacklegged ticks (Ixodes scapularis) in New York

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2021
Borrelia miyamotoi, a bacterium that causes relapsing fever, is found in ixodid ticks throughout the northern hemisphere. The first cases of human infection with B. miyamotoi were identified in 2011.

Modelling the transmission dynamics of Theileria annulata : model structure and validation for the Turkish context [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A mathematical model that describes the transmission dynamics of Theileria annulata is proposed that consists of 2 host components: the Hyalomma tick population and a compartmental model of T. annulata infection in the cattle population.

Susceptibility of Amblyomma sculptum, Vector of Rickettsia rickettsii, Ticks from a National Park and an Experimental Farm to Different Synthetic Acaricides

open access: yes, 2023
Amblyomma sculptum is a relevant tick species from a One Health perspective, playing an important role as a vector of Rickettsia rickettsii, the main agent of spotted fever rickettsiosis in Brazil. In this study, we evaluated the susceptibility of two A.

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

DYNAMICS OF TICKS’ INFESTATION WITH BORRELIA GENUS BACTERIA AND TICK-BORNE ENCEPHALITIS VIRUS IN KIROV REGION

open access: yesИнфекция и иммунитет, 2017
Tick-borne encephalitis and tick-borne borreliosis (or Lyme disease) are one of the most known and the most spread transmissible diseases of human. Nowadays it was proved that these diseases are diagnosed among domestic animals as well. Ixodida ticks are
