Tile Automaton: A Model for an Architecture of a Living System

Artificial Life, 1999
To understand an architecture of a living system, “Tile Automaton” is introduced as an abstract model of chemical reaction of molecules scattered over a space. The model consists of tiles of various shapes that stand for molecules. The chemical reaction, induced by the collisions of tiles, is represented by the change of the tile shapes. The rules for

Recognizability of Polyhexes by Tiling and Wang Systems

2009
The polyhexes are the hexagonal polyominoes on the honeycomb lattice. In this paper we define various types of polyhexes and show that various classes of column (row) polyhexes can be naturally represented as two dimensional words of tiling recognizable languages.

Suspended ceiling tile system

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1987
A method for refurbishing a suspended acoustical tile ceiling when the tiles become soiled comprises inserting a tile insert beneath each soiled tile to provide a new face to the suspended ceiling. The tile insert comprises a thin layer of substantially rigid material with an acoustical pattern of holes extending therethrough.
