Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Sunspot group tilt angle measurements from historical observations

open access: yes, 2016
Sunspot positions from various historical sets of solar drawings are analysed with respect to the tilt angles of bipolar sunspot groups. Data by Scheiner, Hevelius, Staudacher, Zucconi, Schwabe, and Spoerer deliver a series of average tilt angles ...

Stochastic Wobble of Accretion Discs and Jets from Turbulent Rocket Torques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Models of accretion discs and their associated outflows often incorporate assumptions of axisymmetry and symmetry across the disc plane. However, for turbulent discs these symmetries only apply to averaged quantities and do not apply locally.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Tilt angle dependence of the modulated interference effects in photo-elastic modulators

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2017
The effect of the PEM tilt angle and incident polarization on the PEM interference is studied for a single axis photo-elastic modulator. The dc, 1ω, and 2ω components of the detector signal vary periodically as a function of PEM tilt angle.

Shoulder and Neck Balance in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: Which Radiographic Indices are Reliable and Practical? [PDF]

open access: yesMalaysian Orthopaedic Journal
Introduction: Deformities of the spine and thorax in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis affect appearance. They are a cause of inferiority, affecting psychological well-being and the social life of the patients.

Ritchey-Chretien Telescope [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
A Ritchey-Chretien telescope is described which was designed to respond to images located off the optical axis by using two transparent flat plates positioned in the ray path of the image.

Absense of slow transients, and the effect of imperfect vertical alignment, in turbulent Rayleigh-Benard convection

open access: yes, 2005
We report experimental results for the influence of a tilt angle beta relative to gravity on turbulent Rayleigh-Benard convection of cylindrical samples.

Reduction of blurring in view angle tilting MRI [PDF]

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, 2005
AbstractMagnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the presence of metallic objects suffers from slice‐selection errors and in‐plane distortions. View angle tilting (VAT) corrects for in‐plane distortions by adding a gradient on the slice‐select axis during readout, but can suffer from image blurring.
