Acoustic Correlates of Auditory Object and Event Perception: Speakers, Musical Timbres, and Environmental Sounds

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2019
Human listeners must identify and orient themselves to auditory objects and events in their environment. What acoustic features support a listener’s ability to differentiate the great variety of natural sounds they might encounter?

Pitch as a Shared Code for Music and Speech: Behavioral and Neural Evidence From Stroke Patients

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Accurate pitch processing, including the ability to discriminate small differences in pitch, is essential for interpreting the melodic structure of both music and speech. However, the extent to which pitch discrimination is a shared auditory‐perceptual processing component in these domains remains unclear.

The Effect of Pitch Height, Timbre and Octave Error on Absolute Pitch Accuracy. Educational Implications

open access: yesReview of Artistic Education, 2019
The accuracy of absolute pitch has often fallen into mythical perspectives, as this rare ability tends to fascinate people through its spectacular results. Many people tend to think that a musician with absolute pitch is always capable of identifying the

Comments on "Facilitation and Coherence Between the Dynamic and Retrospective Perception of Segmentation in Computer-Generated Music," by Freya Bailes and Roger T. Dean

open access: yesEmpirical Musicology Review, 2007
Although the study by Bailes & Dean (2007) addresses an underresearched area of auditory and musical perception, it raises questions concerning stimuli, methodology, and the study's relation to previous research, that are outlined in this commentary.

Application of Music Data Visualization Technology in Music Appreciation Teaching

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 6, June 2026.
The simulation environment is used to simulate real‐world music appreciation scenarios. DL is employed to preprocess music data, extract features, and identify rhythm information, which is then associated with visual design parameters to construct a parametric model.

The impact of Synaesthesia on inclusive teaching and learning: A systematic literature review

open access: yesBritish Journal of Special Education, Volume 53, Issue 2, Page 189-199, June 2026.
Abstract Synaesthesia is a neurodevelopmental phenomenon involving consistent, involuntary cross‐modal sensory experiences. Though well‐documented in cognitive neuroscience, its implications for educational practice remain underexplored. This systematic narrative literature review investigates how synaesthesia may impact children's learning and inform ...

Enhanced Contour‐Deviant Mismatch Negativity and Mnemonic Representations in Older Musicians

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 63, Issue 12, June 2026.
Data showed enhanced MMN amplitudes in aging adult musicians compared with nonmusicians. Given that enhancements in MMN responses may be an indicator of preserved sensory processing in aging, music training may insulate age‐related decreases in sensory processing through preserved fidelity of encoding auditory information.
