The accuracy of the paramedic's estimated time until arrival (ETA) to an emergency department has never been studied. Two hundred and eighty paramedic runs were prospectively studied in a suburban, residency-affiliated emergency department. The average ETA was 7.39 +/- 3.72 minutes.

On Time-of-arrival Positioning in a Multipath Environment
IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2005Wireless geolocation in a multipath environment is of particular interest for wideband communications and fast-developing ultrawideband (UWB) technologies. Conventional methods are solely based on first arriving signals. In this paper, it is investigated whether and under what conditions processing delay estimates of multipath components in addition to

Time-of-arrival estimation for blind beamforming
2013 18th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing (DSP), 2013Ad-hoc arrays formed by mobile devices are increasingly available to capture audio and video in social events. Using spatial signal processing algorithms, e.g., beamforming, with microphone signals of such arrays is hindered by the unknown locations of the devices and the lack of temporal synchronization between them. While self-calibration methods can

The problem of finding proper quantal operators for the time of arrival, when the source is at infinite distance from the detector, is investigated. It is shown that at least two Hermitian operators can be constructed which, in the Hilbert space of positive energy spectrum, are self-adjoint.

Time-to-arrival estimations to simulated pedestrians
Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2020Driving a vehicle requires individuals' awareness of their surroundings to prevent collisions with other vehicles, objects, and pedestrians. While previous research has investigated time-to-arrival (TTA) in real-world and simulated driving situations, there is little information on how pedestrian reflectance and time of day impact TTA.

Regulated Competition: The Time Has Arrived
Journal of Public Health Policy, 1988I 5 choice" proposal in a book entitled Health Plan: The 6' Only Practical Solution to the Soaring Cost of Medical k s Care (z). In the meantime, there has been wide acceptance of health care market strategies as well as tremendous growth in Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs); but there has been very little done to promote "socially desirable ...

Time of Arrival Statistics in Cellular Environments
2006 IEEE 63rd Vehicular Technology Conference, 2006In this paper we study the temporal statistics of cellular mobile channel. We propose a scattering model that encloses scatterers in an elliptical scattering disc. We, further, employ this model to derive the probability density function (pdf) of Time of Arrival (ToA) of the multipath signal for picocell, microcell, and macrocell environments.

Interference Mitigation for Time of Arrival Estimation
2010 IEEE Wireless Communication and Networking Conference, 2010In indoor environments, geolocation using Time of Arrival (TOA) estimation must use a wide bandwidth to overcome the effects of multipath propagation. Narrowband interference from other applications is a significant problem. In this paper we investigate a number of signal processing schemes to detect and overcome one or more relatively narrowband ...

The Impact of Multipath Information on Time-of-Arrival Estimation
IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2022Time-of-arrival (TOA) based localization plays a central role in current and future localization systems. Such systems, exploiting the fine delay resolution properties of wideband and ultra-wideband (UWB) signals, are particularly attractive for ranging under harsh propagation conditions in which significant multipath may be present.

Time-of-arrival photoelectron correlator
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1987A photoelectron correlator based on the measurement of the joint probability distribution function in the arrival times of eight stop pulses following a single start pulse is described. This correlator has a measurement interval of 5 μs and delay time resolution of 2.5 ns.
