Active Sonar Target Depth Estimation Method Using Echo Structure in Bottom Bounce Area

open access: yesShanghai Jiaotong Daxue xuebao
The discrimination and recognition of underwater targets has been the focus of active sonar detection. The structural characteristics of the target echo arrival in the bottom bounce area are analyzed when the target depth is greater than the transmit ...

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Estimating the Time of Arrival of a Shipment with Machine Learning

open access: yes
Effectively estimating the arrival day of a shipment is an important capability for an express courier company to ensure both customer satisfaction and internal operations efficiency. This paper studies predicting the estimated time of arrival (ETA) of a package, shortly denoted by PETAP, under a collaboration with an industrial partner.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

A Robust Time-Frequency Synchronization Method for Underwater Acoustic OFDM Communication Systems

open access: yesIEEE Access
The strong multipath and long delay extensions can lead to large errors in the timing offset estimation and carrier frequency offset estimation of the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) underwater communication system, resulting in ...

Fast 3D Node Localization in Multipath for UWB Wireless Sensor Networks Using Modified Propagator Method

open access: yesInternational Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, 2014
A fast three-dimensional (3D) node localization algorithm in multipath for ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless sensor networks is developed. The algorithm employs a modified propagator method (MPM) for time delay estimation and then uses a marriage algorithm ...
