A Review of Linear Multilateration Techniques and Applications

open access: yesIEEE Access
In multilateration, distances between an unknown location and several known points are used to determine the location of the unknown point. Papers on algorithms for multilateration, such as time of arrival (TOA), time difference of arrival (TDOA), and ...

Reducing Bias for Closed‐Form TDOA Localization in Unified Near‐Field and Far‐Field Model

open access: yesIET Signal Processing, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Bias is a fundamental metric for evaluating the average error of an estimator, where lower bias indicates an estimator closer to the true value. Recent studies on time difference of arrival (TDOA) localization have introduced the modified polar representation (MPR) to unify near‐field and far‐field scenarios, enhancing robustness to the source range ...

Energy Evolution and Acoustic Emission Precursors for Coal–Rock Instability Under Uniaxial Compression

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The prevention of coal–rock dynamic disasters is crucial for ensuring sustainable and safe mining operations, necessitating a precise understanding of crack propagation and precursor signals for accurate hazard prediction. This study comprehensively analyzes the stress‐strain response, classifies crack propagation stages, and investigates the energy ...

Seismo‐Acoustic Detection and Localization of Iceberg Collapse in Atka Bay, Antarctica

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 23, 16 December 2025.
Abstract On 12 January 2022, an iceberg collapsed at the edge of frozen Atka Bay, Antarctica. The event generated seismic, hydroacoustic, and atmospheric infrasound waves recorded by a local network comprising land‐ and iceshelf‐based seismometers, an underwater hydrophone, and an on‐ice infrasound array.

Improvement of the Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) Estimation of GSM Signals Using Wavelets

open access: yes, 2000
Abstract : The problem of localization of wireless emitters (GSM based) using time difference of arrival (TDOA) techniques is studied. The wavelet transform and denoising techniques are used to increase the accuracy of the TDOA estimate. GSM like signals are simulated using the Hewlett-Packard Advanced Designs System (HP-ADS) software.

A method for localization TDOA estimation based on signal‐level fusion and analysis

open access: yesElectronics Letters
Passive localization using time difference of arrival (TDOA) is one of the common methods for radiated source target localization, and its localization performance depends on the accuracy of TDOA estimation. In many localization scenarios, the signals of

Experimental studies on multi‐scale data‐driven methods within the framework of structural health monitoring

open access: yesCivil Engineering Design, Volume 7, Issue 4, Page 147-168, December 2025.
Abstract The German Research Foundation has established the priority program SPP 100+. Its subject is monitoring bridge structures in civil engineering. The data‐driven methods cluster deals with the use of measurements and their special global and local analysis methods, which complement each other in an overall multi‐scale concept in order to realize

Automatic Analysis of Hydroacoustic Signals Related to the Activity of the Fani Maoré Submarine Volcano

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Due to the properties of sound propagation underwater, including the existence of the SOFAR channel, sounds in the ocean can propagate over large distances with little attenuation. This makes passive acoustics a relevant method for monitoring natural events such as ice calving, earthquakes, and underwater volcanic eruptions.
