Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Interference and diffraction analysis of holographic gratings using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Finite-Difference Time-Domain method (FDTD) is based on a time-marching algorithm that has proven accurate in predicting microwave scattering from complicated objects.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Asymptotic Performance Analysis of Time-Frequency-Domain Spread MC DS-CDMA Systems Employing MMSE Multiuser Detection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this contribution the asymptotic signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) performance of multicarrier direct-sequence code-division multiple-access systems employing time-frequency-domain spreading, i.e., of the TF/MC DS-CDMA systems, is studied,

Simulation of offshore floating hose oil transportation system based on AQWA and OrcaFlex

open access: yesYou-qi chuyun, 2020
Considering that the motion state and the stress of floating hose are complex under the combined action of winds, waves and currents, the dynamic simulation analysis of offshore floating hose oil transportation system was thereby carried out through the ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Topology optimization of dispersive plasmonic nanostructures in the time-domain

open access: yes, 2022
Topology optimization techniques have been applied in integrated optics and nanophotonics for the inverse design of devices with shapes that cannot be conceived by human intuition.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
